Suicide Prevention Awareness Month 2017

There are some topics that are uncomfortable to talk about. That discomfort causes us to ignore them. However, that doesn't make the issues go away and that certainly doesn't help those that are struggling with them. Suicide is one of those topics.

As of 2016, suicide is the leading cause of death among Utah children 10 to 17. Last year we took the first steps in opening up a dialogue, letting those both in our church and in our community know that CrossPoint is a safe place to open up, share struggles, and seek help. With September being Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we want to again emphasize that point.

This Sunday (September 3) Pastor Logan will preach a message titled Hopeless in which he'll provide a broad overview of spiritual depression. The following week (September 10) we'll be joined by guest speakers from the Utah Suicide Prevention Coalition. Kimball Gardner of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will speak at our Taylorsville campus and Heidi Peterson of Communities that Care will speak in Provo. Each interactive presentation will provide tools and resources for those that are struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, as well as for those that know someone who is. We hope you'll join us and be a part of this important conversation!

If you or someone you know is considering suicide, please call 1-800-273-8255.
